2023 Faculty
This year’s sessions at Asilomar will be cohosted by a panel of “More Capable Others” — individuals who have years of experience with various forms of children’s media.
Besides providing post-pandemic examples of products, they’ll be available to give you objective feedback, along with “crossmedia” ideas — for extending a book/video/app/toy concept into another media form.
Warren Buckleitner is the Editor of Children’s Technology Review, who founded Dust or Magic in 2001.
Chris Byrne; the Toy Guy is funny, smart and knows play patterns. He’s also appeared on just about morning televisn show.
Daren Carstens is mathematical savant — and a pioneer in making abstract concepts manipulative on a touch screen. Daren will make sure every question you might have will be answered.
Barbara Chamberlin — who runs the learning games lab at New Mexico State University — an expert in web delivered pedagogy.
Jason Krogh is the founder and GM of Sago Mini a Canadian company that has become a leader in creating developmentally appropriate experiences for sensori-motor and preoperational age children. We’ll help Jason celebrate the ten year anniversary of his studio.
Aleen Stein, the legendary cofounder of The Voyager Company — who also ran international licensing for Scholastic; grand daughter, Catalina Holly who plans on becoming a teacher.
Mark Schlichting and Barbara Chase — Who wrote the book (literally) on making interactive digital products for kids. Mark’s work includes the original Living Books.
Whether you’re beginning your career in children’s media — and you think Piaget’s a watch, or Montessori is just a fancy preschool — or you’re a seasoned project director who needs to bring your new hires up to speed, Dust or Magic is for you.
